Ruby Chat is a native mobile app focused on AI girlfriends and roleplay. Users chat immersively with 20+ AI characters that remember across sessions, letting the companion relationship deepen over time. Highlights include natural, tone-adaptive dialogue, an image gallery unlocked with rubies, custom scenarios and saveable personas, real voice messages and live voice calls, and support for 9 languages. A free tier provides a daily message allowance and welcome rubies, while Premium unlocks unlimited messages and exclusive content — good for light users who want a companion in their pocket.
Background
Developed by the Ruby Chat team, the app centers on 'an AI lover always in your pocket', combining AI girlfriends and roleplay with a light free experience as a native iOS/Android app (not pure web), emphasizing privacy and portability.
Technology
It uses a proprietary dialogue model with cross-session memory and tone adaptation; images are generated and unlocked via the character gallery, voice is driven by AI voice synthesis, and conversations are encrypted in transit and at rest with a no-retention / no-training claim.
Market
Aimed at users who want always-available companionship and roleplay and prefer native mobile apps. Per AppBrain, the Google Play app launched in Aug 2024 with ~26k downloads and a ~4.4 rating (as of Aug 2026), offering a free tier and Premium subscription.
Best For
Users wanting an AI partner/roleplay they can chat with anytime on their phonePeople who like real voice and image interactionLight users who want to try for free before upgrading
Editorial Note
An AI girlfriend/roleplay app done as a native app: tone-adaptive replies and cross-session memory feel natural, and the free tier is genuinely usable; but imagery is conservative and reinstall requires manual purchase restore with possible history loss.
Strengths
- + Tone adapts to the user's style; long chats don't feel robotic
- + Free tier already offers voice and multiple characters at low friction
- + Custom scenarios and personas extend roleplay
Drawbacks
- − Imagery is conservative (non-NSFW); realistic photos often miss context
- − After reinstall you must manually Restore Purchases, and chat history may not follow the account
Value Assessment：Good for light users who want a phone-based companion with real voice and roleplay, without hitting a paywall up front.
